Hi Ani Fans,

I just got home from the Ani concert in Banff... she played last night and
for those of you who are not from Canada or Alberta.... Banff is
breathtaking... the concert hall was a little theatre that held 900 or so...
everyone there was really into Ani and the anticipation before she walked on
was amazing.... so when she did come out on stage the place went nutz....
but anyway... i am a huge Ani fan (for a guy) and have listened to her for 8
or 9 years and really looked forward to this concert... but in all
honesty..... it wasn't good..... she played from her new album... apart from
anticipate, upupupupupup, angry anymore.... they were the only songs that
were not from her new album.... everyone was waiting for Talk to me now, so
what, not a pretty girl, gratitude, napoleon, firedoor, the story..... but
they never came... i was really upset coming out the doors that she didn't
dig into the vault and play some old fav's.... oh well... i know she is
going through a tough time with the break up of her marriage and the rest...
and believe me.... last night it showed..... sorry folks.... Ani was a flop
in Banff.... didn't talk at all between songs was out the door in just over
an hour.... thanks for coming out.

Its a bummer you didn't like the show, but did you really expect
her to solely play her back catalogue? I know when I go and see
Ani, i want to hear the new songs she has created, not old stuff.

The old stuff i can listen to on Living in Clip, SMS-SML, or
any Bootlegs i have around.. Sure its nice to hear your favorite
songs, but i'd rather see what new and innovative creations she
has come across since writing her last album, or live renditions
of her new album. When she played here in Melbourne, Australia
recently, she even wipped out some sheets of poetry she just wrote
and read them out, it was amazing.

You have to remember, Ani has been playing her classics for
so many years, over and over and over, you would expect her
to get sick of them. If she kept playing old songs, you wouldn't
have that bubbly lively Ani that we see on stage, afresh with new
energy. I for one love the new stuff she is doing, and want to
see new songs when i see her live.

Agreed!
Personally, I would love to go to one of her shows and have her play all new
stuff. And I don't mean stuff off of a new album - I mean brand new stuff I
have never heard before. Since she is touring solo, I like to hear what new
things she has to say/sing and I like to focus on the message she is getting
across. Since I have listened to the points of view she has in songs on
albums, I would like to hear what is freshly on her mind. New perspectives
are always welcome!
With the band, I liked to hear new versions of older songs and the variety
that came with that. And I miss her with the band so much because it was
just fun to go see her. But, to me, her with the band was more of a musical
experience than an intellectual one.
Just my opinion,
Betsy

Yup thats so true, I loved how she wipped out her notes on a new
poem and read them out on stage, because she hadn't memorized it
yet.. its really cool, and great to hear where she is at that moment,
rather then were she was 1+ years ago when the songs on the album were
created.

I unfortunately never saw the band live, but have heard them on
many bootlegs, and on Render, i'd like to see Ani and Julie Wolf
tour together, they are amazing when they play.

I guess I heard the same, but never been before so enjoyed it. I was
thrilled with the lineup, she played most of my songs-of-the-moment, but I
guess that's a personal thing. I can say I was very dissapointed at her
no-interacting-with-the-fans-offstage, as I guess is her policy, but I
really wanted to look her in the eye and thank her for all she has
inadvertantly done for me. Oh well. I guess I never really expected the
opportunity anyway.
