<<I'm guessing (hoping)>>
thanks for your honesty.
wasn't that a dionne warwick song?
Wishin' and Hopin' -- lyrics by Ani Difranco, but covered by Dionne
Warwick and Dusty Springfield.
"Ya gotta show him that you care just for him...Do the things he likes to
do"
I'm glad those days are over.

Ummmm.....no. I own nearly all of Ani Difranco's catalog of albums and have
seen her perform live. She doesn't *write* songs like "Wishin' and Hopin' ".
They're far more personal and political in nature. Some are cynically
humorous and others (like the song Two Little Girls, for instance, off her
Little Plastic Castles CD) are often quite graphic in their imagery and
sometimes absolutely heartbreaking. She's highly outspoken and not afraid to
shock, let's just put it that way.

According to this website
http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Ani-Difranco/Wishin-Hopin.html, Difranco
covered the song for the Julia Roberts movie My Best Friend's Wedding. She
covers songs well and others over the years have covered her songs, too.
(Alana Davis did a great version of Ani's song 32 Flavors back in the 90's,
for instance and it fared well on the top 40.) Wishin and Hopin is just not
really the type nor the caliber of song that she'd ever *write*, however.
Not even close. She's got the pipes to *perform* it and do well at it,
however, which obviously she did, and it ended up on a film soundtrack.

it's your own choice and divine right to rashly suggest that
bacharach/david's song "wishin and hopin" is not of the same "caliber"
as ms. di franco's crunchy ouvre, and i'm not going to argue with you
exept to say that i profoundly disagree.
i bet many of the prolific ms. difranco's songs have the potential to
be pop hits (like 31flavors), but bacharach/david were a deep,
swinging, consistently affecting pop machine.
their songs are *timeless and *universal**.
perhaps ms. di franco's songs will have the same staying power and
universal accessibility of bacharah/david's shitload of golden,
world-wide hits, but i personally doubt it.
i think she is a good role model.
more power to her for doing her own thing and refusing to change her
underwear i mean change her image for anyone.

I assume that the OP was being facetious, since I'm pretty sure the
dusty springfielfd version was out when Ani difranco was, at the
absolute oldest, maybe 4.
